Wugging Stages

When Roger, Bob and I arrived at Colerne, that 30 marshals had replied saying they would be attending the event, (we later found out that only 28 turned out on the day) this is not very many for the size of event, as I would have liked to see at least 65 if I had been the Event Chief Marshal.

We had a team of 7 at the event, which means that in proportion Premier Marshals Group, provided 25% of the marshals for the Rally!, we had most of the regular team however It seemed strange not to have Nigel with us as he was marshalling on another event, and of course we are still missing Maureen who is still recovering from the brakes in her leg which she sustained at the Goodwood FOS in July, but I am pleased to say she is on the mend and has now had the cast removed, which I'm sure she is pleased about as well.  Amy was to be part of the team but had to cancel due to work, however we were joined by a new guy called Martin, although he goes under the name of Moby as he looks like the singer by that name, and I'm told by Alec that his mates have called him Moby for so long that he no longer answers to Martin, anyway Moby enjoyed his day and has now become a member of the group, so I would like to welcome him on everyone's behalf and I'm sure we will be seeing him a lot at future events.

We were given a sector at the bottom of the Airfield not far from where we marshalled on the event at Colerne about 6 weeks ago, and I believe that 1 of the junctions was the junction where the team marshalled last year at this event. Our sector contained 3 junctions, 2 chicanes and a 90° bend which changed to a dogleg, on the whole there was an awful lot of stage furniture to pick up, and Ideally I would have liked a team of 10 or more to cover this sector.

This event was held the day before my birthday, and Sue had very kindly made some profiteroles (see picture on right), that we all enjoyed  during the very short break before we had to go back to the various parts of the sector, I would also like to thank you for the birthday cards and text messages I received.  During the event it was mentioned to me that we were being split up, and I commented that this would happen more often as the team grows in size (which is what we want), and that I didn't see a problem with this as long as we were on adjoining junctions, after all this is what happens on the Rally Sunseeker, Bovington, the FOS and some other events, however I'm not sure that I didn't miss the point that was being made, as I do see a problem in being asked to cover too large an area and having to spread the team so thinly that we are unable to maintain the very high standard of marshalling the the Group are renowned for.  This event was a good example of this as due to the lack of marshals signed on for the event and with this in mind I would like to say a very big thank you to Ian, Sue, Bob, Roger, Alec and Moby, for all their efforts, in doing a excellent job under such difficult conditions.

There are a few pictures and some video footage available for this event, and as usual I have added them to the Picture Gallery, there is also a message from the organizers and there are some results and an award list
