Tempest Rally

The Tempest was the last forest rally for the group in 2009, the next one being the Rally Sunseeker in February 2010.  The Tempest Rally held each year in at the beginning of November in the woods and forests around the Farnborough and Aldershot areas.

This year as in other recent years we marshalled on the Warren Heath stage, which is close to Blackbush airfield, (although I have always thought it should be called NO BUSH as there aren't any trees or bushes on it at all).

The weather leading up to the event was wet, and when I left home on the morning it had been raining over night, and as we travelled up the M3 there was just a few spots of rain.  On the way up, I suddenly thought that I may have forgot to pick up the eggs for breakfast before leaving home, and on checking when we arrived at Fleet Services, I found that my fears were right, I looked in the store at the main service area and then in the shop at the garage on the way out of the services but it was just wishfull thinking as neither sold eggs, so we set off for the venue looking for a garage or shop on the way, but unfortunately there was none.

When we arrived at the venue, the others were already waiting for us, as we had already been allocated our sector it was a case of signing on, and setting off for our sector where the first job was to cook the breakfast, and by the time we had finished the weather was looking quite promising. Our sector consisted of 3 junctions, J14 a 90° right, then close by way J15 a 90° left, and little further away was J16 a sharp bend of about 130° right, which was at the bottom of a fairly steep hill.  We had a good sized team for this event, 11 of us in total, so we split into 2 groups, on the first run through, 5 of us went to do J16, and the other 6 stayed and split themselves between J14 and J15. At the end of the first runs we rejoined the others at J14 for drink and a chat as there was quite a gap till the start of the second runs, and it had been increased even more by an incident at the Longmoor stage earlier in the morning.

By the time we had to get ready for the second runs, it was well into the afternoon and although it was still dry it was starting to get cold, which is only to be expected in November.  To give everyone a chance of marshalling at the best corner, we swapped around for these runs, so the 6 who marshalled J14 & J15 went to J16, and the other 5 of us split between J14, and J15.

After we had finished clearing up at the end of the event we travelled up to J16 to meet the others, where Ian was letting off a few fireworks.  a good day was had by all, and I would like to thank you all for your support on this event, and on behalf of us all I would like to welcome Dan our newest member of the group.

There are a few pictures and some video footage available for this event, and as usual I have added them to the Picture Gallery, there is also a message from the organizers and there are some results and an award list
